Join us in Worship at Old Pine where we praise God and delve into the sacred story. We gather at the font and table and seek to serve our neighbor.
At 7pm on Tuesday, April 21, Old Pine will host a free screening of the documentary Can't Stop the Water. This film tells the story of Chief Albert Naquin, whose Louisiana tribe is being displaced because of extreme environmental change. For 170 years, the Isle de Jean Charles Band of Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw has thrived on an island deep in the bayous of south Louisiana. Now their island is almost gone, destroyed by decades of oil extraction, government levees, and rising seas. The award-winning documentary will be introduced by the filmmakers and followed by a panel discussion with Chief Albert Naquin, Bob Gough of Intertribal Council on Utility Policy, and anthropologist and climate justice expert, Julie Maldonado.
